John Woodburn | Financial Controller

John brings extensive experience in finance, accounting, business intelligence, and business management systems to the OnApproach team. John served as a Senior Auditor at Ernst & Young (four years), a controller at Proex Photo Systems (two years) and owner and president at the Woodburn Group (26 years). The Woodburn Group specialized in the implementation of Great Plains and Epicor business management systems for companies under $100 million. In 2003, Woodburn started a Business Intelligence and Analytics division which focused on consulting and training for SAP Business Objects and Crystal Reports. Twice, Woodburn earned the SAP Education Partner of the Year award (2007 & 2008).

John has also served as a co-author of the American Institute of Public Accountants (AICPA) Strategic Electronic Business Initiative (The CPA Letter/Business & Industry, October 1999) and chair the AICPA Electronic Business Task Force and Conference. In 1998, as a member of the AICPA High Tech Task Force, he co-wrote a proposal that was approved by the AICPA Board of Directors, to prototype and develop an XML standard for the digital exchange of financial information, which became XBRL.org. He was a member of the Review Board for the AICPA Audit Risk Alert – eBusiness Industry Developments. In 2000, he was selected to serve on the AICPA Top Ten Technology Group, which establishes the technologies that will most impact the CPA profession. Woodburn founded and chaired the Minnesota Society of CPAs Information Technology Conference. Woodburn has served on the Board of the Information Technology Alliance. John holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting and French from Gustavus Adolphus College.
